How did you get into the field?
After college I moved to Arizona for a year then when came back to Boston, found Merida through a Temp agency. I’ve been working there for 17 years. I started in Customer Service, then worked in Operations and now back working directly with Designers.
Does your education background reflect what you do for work?
Surprising yes. I went to undergraduate school at URI and graduated in Textile Marketing.
Give me three reasons why you like it?
1. I Love working with designers from beginning to end on projects (sample through installation) and making sure everything goes seamless and seeing their happiness. Getting the rug delivered/installed on time is critical for the designers as it is the first thing that is done in a room before all the furniture can be delivered, etc so it is critical we deliver on time.
2. Love , love the multitasking and I work with a great team at Merida
3. So fun to work with the designers and learn all about other things on the project.
(Very high end clients so it's amazing to see what they spend on rugs.)
What would you consider the stress level of your current occupation (1-10, 10
being the highest)?
If money was not an issue, would you still choose the same career path?
Yes. I truly love the company/people and leadership I work with at Merida. I feel that one
of my strengths is my ability to multitask which is so essential for this position as
you work on many projects at one time. Average is 20-25 projects open on a regular
What is the hardest part about your job?
Balancing work/family life. I often have to leave early to pick up kids, etc and I'm not able to get to all my work, so many nights I jump back on the computer at 9pm to finish work. I am thankful that
Merida is so accommodating to me and family life.
Did you always know this is the career path you wanted to take or were you diverted a few times?
I always knew I wanted to work in a corporate environment but never thought I’d work with rugs. I have been at Merida basically my whole career and am thankful I have been given the opportunity to learn/work in so many different areas in a company. There were times when business was slow for a while after 9/11 and recession but I’m so glad I rode through the storm and stuck through
it because now I truly feel that I’m in my “perfect” position.
