As an author, I've attended book club meetings locally as both a writer and a reader. But this past weekend was my first time branching out and trekking to Vermont to attend a meeting with a group of women I had never met before. The club had read my latest release, Underwater Secrets. As soon as I arrived, the host greeted me with open arms, presenting me with a box of chocolates from a local store. Before the guests started to arrive, she told me how their book club works. They meet once a month and the person hosting gets to choose the book, as well as provide the meal and drinks, all in line with the theme of the book. In this case, the host was preparing a full blown meal of corned beef and cabbage, along with smores fondue and Coronas. Has this inspired you to read Underwater Secrets yet? ;)
After dinner, the group of ten ladies, gathered in the cozy living room and sipped on coffee out of cups that were similar to that described in the book. I was so impressed by how well the host brought Underwater Secrets to life but it didn't stop there. The discussion started about the book and of course there were questions about the writing process. But the inspiration really fired up when the conversation branched off and we talked about anything from motherhood, health, happiness levels and the beautiful state of Vermont. These women inspired me with their questions, their own personal backgrounds and of course their love of reading. Three hours flew by, and I left there feeling rejuvenated and energized. Because of this, I couldn't wait to get back to my laptop and start working on my next project.
A big thank you to the "Fancy Ladies Book Club." :)
